Rena Dillman
Rena Dillman, Artist/Instructor
I am originally from near Metamora, Indiana. I moved to Hartsville, In in 1959, along
with my family, from our farm in Franklin County. I married Don Dillman in June 1962
and that is when my art career began. Our wedding coordinator, a well known Jennings
Co. artist, gave us an oil painting as a wedding gift. I had always had an interest in art
from a small child so this was a treasured and intriguing gift. I made such a nuisance of
myself with questions about the painting that the artist agreed to give me weekly
lessons. I paid $1.50 per class and she supplied everything. I continued my classes for
two and one half years. She taught me so much in the fine art method of painting. My
husband gave me a paint box filled with paints and brushes and an easel for our first
Christmas together. I was ecstatic about having my own supplies. I felt like a real
artist.
I have taught art classes in my hometown of Hope, since 1981. I've also taught for
several years throughout the area, at Batesville, Middlefork Lake near Hartsville, and the
studio of Margaret Mowery and The Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville, as well as
other sites in Indiana.
I have studied with several nationally known art teachers since beginning in 1962. I've
had several workshops with well-known oil portrait artist/instructor Karen Patton,
Goddard Kansas. I've also studied pastels, acrylics, and watercolors from various
teachers and enjoy these medias as well as teach them. Painting and teaching are a
very important part of my life and I love sharing what I've learned from all those who
have so generously shared with me.
I feel I've been blessed with a wonderful gift from God that has enriched my life and
brought me into contact with my many students who have become dear friends and
some teachers themselves.
My family is a constant source of joy and inspiration.
I am honored to be the founder and past president of Art Guild of Hope.
I conduct adult and children's classes each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in
my adjoining studio/classroom located in the Hope mini-mall. You may contact me at
(812)546-4707 or visit me at the mall during business hours.
