                                      Rena Dillman, Artist/Instructor

Originally from near Metamora, Indiana,  I moved to Hartsville, In  in 1959, along with my
family from our farm in Franklin County.  I married Don Dillman on June 24,1962 and that is
when my art career began.  Our wedding coordinator, a well known Jennings Co. artist, gave
us an oil painting as a wedding gift.  I had always had an interest in art from a small child so
this was a treasured and intriguing gift.  I made such a nuisance of myself with questions about
the painting that the artist agreed to give me weekly lessons at $1.50 per class and she
supplied everything.  I continued my classes for two and one half years.  She taught me so
much in the fine art method of painting.  My husband gave me a paint box filled with paints,
brushes and an easel for our first Christmas together.  I was ecstatic about having my own
supplies.  I felt like a real artist.

I have taught art classes in my hometown of Hope, In since 1981.  I've also taught for several
years throughout the area, at Batesville, Middlefork Lake near Hartsville, the studio of Margaret
Mowery and The Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville, as well as other sites in Indiana.

Painting and teaching are a very important part of my life.  I have studied with several
nationally known art teachers since beginning in 1962.  I've had several workshops with
well-known oil portrait artist/instructor Karen Patton, Goddard Kansas.  I've also studied
pastels, acrylics, and watercolors from various teachers and enjoy these medias as well as
teach them.

I feel I've been blessed with a wonderful gift from God that has enriched my life and brought
me into contact with my many students who have become dear friends and some teachers
themselves.

My family is a constant source of joy and inspiration.

I am honored to be the founder and past president of Art Guild of Hope.

I conduct adult and young adult classes each Thursday and Saturday in my  studio/classroom
located on the Hope Town Square.  You may contact me at (812)546-4707 or visit me at the
studio during business hours
